Staying warm during wintertime and still saving on energy bills
We all know winter time can be cold, unpleasent and last for months. Household energy usage goes up but your family is still feeling cold. Sounds familiar?

We listed few things below to remind you what you need to take care in your home to prepare yourself for winter and also how to be energy-efficient during the cold season.

Have your gas appliances serviced regularly every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered qualified gas engineer to make sure they work properly.

Locate and test your water stop cock. In case of a burst or a leak you'll be happy you know where it is located.

Bleed your radiators in order to release any trapped air and don't cover them so the heat output is not obstructed.

Be prepared for possible power-cuts with candles, matches and a torch.

After the sun has set close your curtains in order to keep the heat in and not to escape through thin windows.

Check that your inside doors fit well to their frames. If you see any gaps consider fitting draught proofing strips. Try to keep these doors shut.

Check and possibly add insulation in your loft, hot water cylinder and pipes.

Schedule heating coming on just before you are getting up in the mornings and to go off just after you go to bed in the evenings. And only heat up rooms you use.

Use a fireplace instead of central heating if you have one.

If your home is empty during most of the day leave your central heating low or schedule it to come on at least for an hour each day to avoid pipes from freezing.

Lastly hire a professional to check your roof for missing tiles, to clear your gutters and to sweep your chimney.
